2 years since this;

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

and it’s much worse..

Back then it was a few spots on  the back edge of the roof, now it is both front fenders, along the tops of the doors, and the trunk..

I don’t think there is much to do other than respray- no miracle is going to save the clearcoat that’s left.

Tough because it is our good friends daughter, her first car, and I helped her pick it out. The car is great and she loves it, it just looks worse and worse each day.

She bought it in 2014 used from the local Honda dealer, it’s a 2007. When it started she called them and they brushed her off saying there was a tsb but it’s long been over.

I’m wondering if talking to Honda Canada would go anywhere?

Lol, late 2000's Honda clear coat. Might be time to just plastidip or wrap the whole thing.

We have the same problem with my girlfriend’s 2006 Civic. There was a recall but she forgot to respond in time.

They said the recall was over before she bought the car, crappy because the paint at the time was fine.

Ours isn't worth spending much money on. It's got nearly 200k miles, has been in some fender benders, and is clinging to life. But I'd imagine that a paint shop could deal with it for you.

Hers is around 120k km so lots of life left.. and otherwise been a fantastic car.

I’d like to point out that Tesla are constantly hounded for quality issues. But GM seem to get away with it despite decades and decades of bullshit.

Honda are a company well respected for build quality. And yet..this car is 11 years old!

There’s a point to be made there about people shitting all over Tesla needlessly.

Just paint on some happy little trees a nd some fields and people will think it was intentional (or at least think it was an ingenious way to hide the problem)...

Well I’ve owned 6 HMC vehicles going back to 1995 (‘95 Accord, ‘99 Accord, ‘00 Accord, ‘ 10 TSX, ‘15 TLX, ‘18 TLX) and I know a few things...

1) Honda engines can take a licking and keep on ticking and virtually seem to run forever.

2) Stock HMC brakes are garbage (fade issues an d warped rotors on all including the ‘18)

3 ) Honda paint is nanometers thin and crap quality.

I had that issue with all Accords we owned and after upgrading to Acuras, the paint/clear coat didn’t disintegrate like the Honda’s but you could scratch/mark it with a piece of clothing.  :/

Wow, I had a 2009 in Hawaii but it was white, I think some dark colors need to be garaged or something. I see an Acura in red, looks like an early 2000s and it’s going to shit. I have a silver 2006 CRV and no problem. There is just a lot more heat going on under the clearcoat in those paints I assume.

Come on, this is natural (although unpleasant) oxidation. Most likely resulting from lack of applying wax. All of the UV protectant is in the clear coat. And even the clear coat needs protection from the sun’s damaging rays too, to make it last longer. Proper paint care is crucial for longevity of any automotive finish. Any paint job when not waxed on time and not garage kept will start showing clear coat damage from sun in (about) 10 years. I’ve worked in body and paint for nearly 2 decades and k eeping up with regular washing (every 2 weeks), and waxing (at least 3 times a year but hopefully 4), and parking in covered areas will keep your vehicles finish looking new for MUCH  longer. Repaint and take better care of it. Good luck!

Good greif, other than the fact my car is the lighter Atomic Blue color you might h a v e b e e n describing it . A few years back the clear coat started to let go on the roof so I wrapped it with black vinyl. Flash forward to the present and at this point the clear has started failing on pretty much every other panel. It’s not quite this bad yet, but it’s definitely well on its way. Also I actually just pulled the vinyl off the roof the other day because it was starting to look like crap too.
